AFRICAN LANGUAGES ONLINE SCHOOL

At the end of each course, we assess the following key areas in language:

  • Speaking: General Oral Conversation
  • Writing: Short texts and or paragraphs
  • Reading: Prepared reading of a Shona text/picture reading
  • Listening: Listening for comprehension 

BEGINNERS

1.Speaking : General Oral Conversation based on the following:

  • Greetings,
  • Myself,
  • Where I am from,
  • My family ,
  • The body and its basic functions,
  • My school and basic surroundings e.g mountains, activities done there,
  • Basic conversation of what they saw on their virtual tours i.e sites etc

2.Writing: Basic paragraph on either myself my family

3.Reading: prepared reading of a text with themes concerning self/ reading pictures

4.Listening for comprehension:  listen to pre-recorded audios on myself/ my family/ school and its surroundings and answer a set of questions given

NB: CONTENT MAY NOT BE AS HEAVY AS IT LOOKS ON THIS DESCRIPTION

INTERMEDIATE

1.Speaking: general oral conversation on: Self,

  • opinion based responses( maybe comment on a picture etc),
  • daily routine, answering question in the past tense and present continuous,
  • clothing, describing a family member or friend,
  • traditional food likes and dislikes,
  • comment on the virtual tour done

2.Writing: Write a paragraph on: self / daily routine/ my friend /

3.Reading: Picture reading on themes dealt with in the course basically describing what is happening in the picture/ Prepared reading of a paragraph based on the themes dealt with.

  1. 4. Listening: listening to a prerecorded piece on the themes dealt with and answer a few questions based on what they hear. (can be on virtual tour)

ADVANCED

1.Speaking: General oral conversation based on:  self, wishes, music and Zimbabwean musicians learnt, travelling, future plans,

2.Writing: writing a paragraph on future plans and wishes,

3.Reading: picture reading of different scenarios whereby describing will be a necessity, use of opposites,

  1. 4. Listening: listen for comprehension to a virtual tour (in this case an audio will be used) then answer a few questions after.
